Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Bristol Hospital

Hospital based program the department is currently being remodeled. Department is staffed by registered nurses. Two full time and two part time staff, also works in stress lab one day a week as well as covering Interventional Radiology when scheduled.


The program was started in 1985 and offers In-Patient Phase I, Out Patient Phase II and Phase III Maintenance Program.


Classes are held on

Mon/Wed/Th @ 7:30am, 8;15am, 10am, 11:15am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 4pm& 5pm.

Tues 8:30am, 9:45am, 11 am & 1pm.

Fri 7:30, 10 am and 11:15 am

Orientations/Intakes are done on Mon/ Wed 11 am & 2pm, Tues/Thurs @ 2pm

Fri @8:30a


Equipment available: Treadmills, Nu-Step, Rowers, Arm ergometer, Precor, True bike, Elliptical, Airdyne bike, Monark bike, weights, medicine ball and dynabands.


Classes are conducted: Initial orientation then Cardiac Pts attends 2-3 Times a wk

Pulmonary pts attend 2 times per wk. for 36 sessions.

Daily process: Pts get weighed, monitor applied (cardiac Ph 2 pts) O2 sat (pulm pts)

BP are taken on all patients, home exercise and pain assessment reviewed.

Warm ups are done using weights and dynabands.

Progress reports are reviewed with patients @ 12th and 24th sessions.

Exit Interviews are reviewed @ session 30.


Teaching is conducted prior to class on Tues for Pulm pts and Wed for Cardiac pts.

Various topics as well as videos are rotated through the patients rehab sessions.

The Dietician conducts education classes the beginning of each month with question and answers sessions as well.

Community Programs:

Community Cholesterol screenings are performed by staff at Wellness Center and Corporate businesses. Staff participates in Health fairs @ Senior center and Municipal Health screenings @ City Hall and schools doing Lung capacity, BP and educational information packets.


Referral Source: Cardiologist and MD’s on staff @ hospital as well as referrals from patients discharged from other health facilities.


Telemetry system: Cardiac Science capacity to monitor 12 patients.


Student Interns: Are accepted for a semester from accredited Exercise Physiology programs. They have been with us for past two years and have been very beneficial to staff and well received by the patients.


We have a community based program with a very friendly and inviting atmosphere. The staff allows a lot of flexibility and is very accommodating to allow the patients to complete their rehab program while providing clinical and psychological support.

Each year we have an annual Christmas party with upwards of 150 patients past and present attending.

We are currently in the process of remodeling the department and look forward to a newly remodeled area to continue to provide our patients with a positive fulfilling rehab experience.
